The Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) and the UK Abraham Accords Group (UKAAG) have signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding aimed at deepening artificial intelligence cooperation between Israel, the United Kingdom, and nations participating in the Abraham Accords. The agreement was formalized at the British Ambassador’s residence in Israel, underscoring growing diplomatic interest in using AI as a tool for regional stability and collaboration.
The UK Abraham Accords Group, a non-partisan organization that promotes British engagement with the Accords, said the partnership marks a significant expansion of its efforts to strengthen ties across trade, culture, and technology. The new MOU builds on joint research conducted by HIT and UKAAG exploring opportunities for AI-driven initiatives in health, energy, education, and governance throughout the Middle East.
A major emphasis of the agreement is responsible AI development, including the creation of professional training programs and shared standards. During the ceremony, researchers Hadas Lorber and Matthew Davies outlined a roadmap for regional AI collaboration, while Shahd Asfour, tech policy lead at the British Embassy, highlighted the growing role of “tech diplomacy” in fostering cross-border dialogue.
British Ambassador Simon Walters welcomed the initiative, calling the UK a “trusted convener” committed to advancing ethical and innovative technologies. He said the UK’s global leadership in research and AI governance provides an opportunity to deepen cooperation across the Middle East.
HIT President Prof. Eduard Yakubov said the partnership places the institute “at the center of a regional effort to build practical AI solutions that improve lives,” noting that collaboration with the UK and Abraham Accords partners will help shape the region’s technological future.
UKAAG policy director Matthew Davies described AI diplomacy as a new engine for Middle Eastern cooperation, emphasizing that the MOU will turn research into concrete projects connecting the UK, Israel, and Accords nations. HIT’s Hadas Lorber added that uniting UK expertise in AI safety, Israel’s innovation ecosystem, and the ambitions of Abraham Accords countries can form a “responsible framework for meaningful regional progress.”
