Certification for professionals who provide assurance over AI systems.
The AI Audit & Assurance Professional certification will assess whether you can plan, perform and conclude an independent attestation-style assurance engagement over an AI system. We are building it aligned with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17024.
Competence, not course completion.
The certification will recognize professionals who have demonstrated the knowledge and skills to deliver an attestation-style independent assurance engagement over an AI system, from agreeing the scope and criteria to issuing a conclusion. The competencies it assesses will come from a job task analysis of professionals who do this work.
Written for people already working in assurance.
The certification is intended for auditors, assurance practitioners, and risk and compliance professionals who evaluate AI systems or will be asked to. It will assume working familiarity with audit and assurance concepts. It will not assume a background in data science.
How we are building the certification.
A credible certification starts with evidence about the work itself. Before we write a single exam question, we are establishing what competent AI assurance practitioners actually do, and what they need to know to do it well. Each stage below will be published here as it is completed.

Job task analysis
Practitioners define the tasks, knowledge and skills involved in AI assurance work, and a wider survey validates them.

Body of knowledge and exam blueprint
The competencies from the job task analysis become a published blueprint showing what the exam covers and how it is weighted.

Exam development
Subject matter experts write and review exam questions against the blueprint, followed by a formal process to set the passing standard.

The candidate handbook, eligibility requirements, fees and certification policies are published.

If you hold the BABL AI Auditor certificate.
The certificate awarded on completion of BABL AI’s AI Auditor training program before 31 January 2027 remains a record of that training. It is separate from the AI Audit & Assurance Professional certification. We will publish information about the new certification here as each stage is completed, and notify certificate holders directly.

Is training required?
No. You will be able to prepare in any way you choose. BABL AI offers training, but taking it will not be required and will give no advantage in the assessment.
How is this different from AI governance certifications?
Governance certifications focus on knowledge of frameworks, policies and organizational controls or AI management systems. This certification will assess the layer below: Whether you can perform an attestation-style assurance engagement over an AI system itself: framing a testable claim, gathering technical evidence, and reaching a supportable conclusion.
