Neither traditional auditing nor governance training prepares you to audit AI systems.

An audit and assurance background provides a strong foundation in independence, professional conduct, evidence, controls, and reaching defensible conclusions. But auditing AI also requires understanding how AI systems work, the risks they create, and how they can affect people and organizations.

AI governance training typically focuses on how organizations oversee AI through policies, roles, controls, and processes. AI auditing goes further into the evaluation of specific systems: understanding the system and its context, assessing risks and impacts, examining evidence and controls, testing performance and behavior, and reaching defensible conclusions.

The Certified AI Audit & Assurance Professional credential is designed to assess this combination of competencies, informed by practitioners who apply them in real engagements.

Is this for you? Here is what you get.

Who it is for

Internal auditors, AI governance and responsible AI professionals, risk and compliance professionals, legal professionals working with AI, and anyone preparing for a career in AI audit and assurance. No prior technical or audit background is required.

What you get

The credential to prove you can audit and assure AI systems: how to scope a system’s risks, judge its governance, understand the technology, read the testing, and stand behind a conclusion.

One honest note: this is the start of the journey, not the whole of it. It gives you the foundation to contribute to an audit team under supervision and a strong base for governance and responsible-AI roles. It is not a substitute for hands-on experience, needed to audit independently. And on its own does not equip you with enough skills to directly test AI systems.

Earned by assessment, not attendance.

The credential is earned by assessment, independent of any training. To become certified, you complete a hands-on capstone, sign our Code of Conduct, and pass a proctored exam. Because certification is separate from training, there are two ways to reach the exam.

Certification Only

$1,000

From 1 December 2026. If you already know the field, prepare independently with the included Study Pack, then complete the hands-on capstone and proctored certification exam.

Training Only

$2,500

Build your knowledge and skills through our training program, then complete the same certification process. Best, if you are new to AI audit and assurance or want structured preparation.

Accreditation in progress

We are developing the AI Audit & Assurance Professional certification in alignment with ISO/IEC 17024, the international standard for organizations that certify people. This includes requirements designed to support impartiality and ensure that certification is based on demonstrated competence, not whether a candidate completed a particular training program. We are aligning the program with the standard as a step toward future accreditation.

Prepare with our training

Five courses, five capabilities.

You do not have to train with us to get certified. Our training is online and self-paced, built around five core courses that develop the capabilities assessed through the certification. Enrollment is on our learning platform.

01

AI & Machine Learning

Understand well enough how AI and ML systems work to ask the right questions and evaluate the evidence.

02

Algorithmic Risk & Impact Assessments

Identify a system’s risks and impacts, prioritize what matters, and determine where more evaluation is needed.

03

AI Governance & Risk Management

Evaluate whether an organization’s AI governance, risk management, roles, and controls are appropriate and effective.

04

AI Testing & Evaluation

Understand, interpret, and challenge the metrics, methods, and evidence behind AI testing.

If you feel ready

Certification assessments

Certification is independent from training. Taking our courses does not guarantee passing the certification assessments.

Format

The training is fully online and self-paced. Work through the five core courses on your own schedule.

Self-paced doesn’t mean unsupported. Students can join weekly live office hours with BABL experts and connect with fellow learners in a private Slack community.

Don’t take our word for it.
