Jovana Davidovic, Chief Ethics Officer at BABL AI and Senior Researcher at the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO), will join a high-profile panel on Monday, May 12, 2025, to explore the ethical boundaries of artificial intelligence in modern warfare. The panel, titled “What Limits Should Be Placed on the Use of AI in Warfare?”, is part of a public event hosted at PRIO in Oslo and will also be streamed online.
As reliance on AI in conflict grows—enabling faster targeting, autonomous surveillance, and data-driven battlefield decisions—this conversation seeks to confront a core question: what limits should be placed on AI when life-and-death decisions are at stake?
Davidovic will join fellow experts including Eivind Vad Petersson, State Secretary at the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mitt Regan, Professor of Law at Georgetown University. The session will be moderated by Greg Reichberg, Director of PRIO’s *Warring with Machines* initiative.
This event also marks the launch of a new three-year research project led by PRIO titled Ethical Risk Management for AI-Enabled Weapons: A Systems Approach (ERM). As a co-lead on the project, Davidovic will help shape international guidance on how to ethically govern AI tools used in armed conflict, with an emphasis on risk mitigation, systems-level accountability, and international legal standards.
