Ali’s research focuses on epistemology (theories of knowledge and rationality), ethics, and issues lying at their intersection. His research in applied ethics focuses on issues in technology, especially ethics of AI and algorithms, and the spread of misinformation. He’s an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Philosophy at the University of Iowa, where he regularly teaches courses in ethics and epistemology, and helped develop a Graduate Certificate in Ethics that offers specializations in AI ethics, military ethics, medical ethics, human rights, and more.
Mitt’s work focuses on international law, national security, international human rights, and legal and military ethics. Mitt is McDevitt Professor of Jurisprudence, Director of the Center on the Legal Profession, and Co-Director on the Center on National Security and the Law at Georgetown University Law Center, as well as Senior Fellow at the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership at the U.S. Naval Academy. Mitt also serves on the Institute for Defense Analyses committee that is advisory to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) on incorporating assessment of legal, moral, and ethical considerations into research projects for the agency.
Borhane draws on his ethics expertise and on participatory methods to help organizations and practitioners mitigate the ethical risks of AI systems. His recent research looks to feminist philosophy of science to uncover overlooked areas of ethical risk with ML benchmarks. He founded He founded Accountability Case Labs to tackle silos in the algorithmic accountability space through participatory research and workshops. He is also co-director of Open Post Academics, he co curated the 2022 Mozilla Festival Rethinking Power and Ethics space, and he holds a PhD in philosophy from Columbia University
Karim is social scientist and Founder of RAI Audit. He has 16 years of experience working in ethics and governance spanning both industry and academia, and recently served on Meta’s Responsible AI Team. He is also a member of the IEEE’s USA AI Policy committee. Karim holds a Ph.D. in Management (business ethics and organizational behavior) from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business.
