UPDATE – MARCH 2026:

Since Jeffery Recker’s guest lecture at Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH), global attention on AI bias, auditing, and responsible AI governance has continued to grow. Universities, research institutions, and industry organizations are increasingly integrating these topics into academic programs and professional training. This trend is growing. Artificial intelligence systems are becoming more widely deployed across society.

The rapid expansion of generative AI tools and automated decision-making systems has intensified discussions around algorithmic fairness, transparency, and accountability. Governments and regulatory bodies in Europe, North America, and other regions are introducing new frameworks and oversight mechanisms. These are designed to address risks associated with AI bias and discriminatory outcomes. Consequently, these developments have reinforced the importance of interdisciplinary education that combines technical knowledge with ethical and governance considerations.

Institutions such as BTH remain active participants in this evolving conversation by incorporating responsible AI topics into engineering and sustainability programs. Academic engagement helps prepare future professionals to understand how algorithmic systems affect social outcomes. This is particularly important in areas such as finance, employment, healthcare, and public services.

At the same time, demand for practical tools to assess and mitigate bias in AI systems is increasing. Independent auditing, risk assessments, and governance frameworks are gaining attention as organizations seek ways to evaluate AI systems before and after deployment. As a result, these practices are becoming central components of responsible AI strategies across both public and private sectors.

BABL AI continues to contribute to these efforts through its work in AI auditing, governance consulting, and education. The company’s focus on identifying and addressing algorithmic bias aligns with broader efforts. The main goal is to ensure AI technologies are developed and deployed in ways that support fairness, accountability, and social sustainability.

ORIGINAL PRESS RELEASE:

BABL AI Co-Founder Guest Lectures on AI Bias and Auditing at Blekinge Institute of Technology

BABL AI’s Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer, Jeffery Recker, recently delivered a guest lecture at the prestigious Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) in Karlskrona, Sweden. The session, attended by graduate students in engineering and sustainability, explored how AI bias and AI auditing connect to social sustainability.

Understanding AI Bias and Its Impact

Recker outlined different types of AI bias, their origins, and the real-world impact on diverse demographic groups. He stressed that recognizing bias is the first step. However, organizations must also act to mitigate it. Ethical practices, he explained, are essential for building socially sustainable technologies.

Engaging With Students and Faculty

Throughout the lecture, Recker encouraged open dialogue. He highlighted why education matters, particularly for parents concerned about protecting children from biased AI systems. “I really enjoyed having open conversations with the students and faculty on the importance of AI bias and what people can do to become more educated, especially as it relates to parents and protecting their children,” said Recker.

BTH’s Commitment to Cutting-Edge Topics

The event formed part of BTH’s mission to integrate emerging issues into its curriculum. As a result, students learn to connect technical innovation with ethical responsibility. By focusing on AI ethics, the institute prepares future engineers and sustainability leaders to handle the risks and responsibilities of new technologies. In addition, BTH encourages collaborations that link classroom learning to real-world challenges. This approach strengthens its reputation as a leader in applied research.
