BABL AI, a leader in Responsible AI development, is proud to announce the participation of its Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer, Khoa Lam, at the prestigious ACM Conference on Fairness, Accountability, and Transparency (ACM FAccT) 2024. This year’s conference, held from June 3 to June 6 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, brought together a diverse group of researchers and practitioners dedicated to addressing the critical issues of fairness, accountability, and transparency in socio-technical systems.

Khoa Lam presented BABL AI’s latest research paper on assurance audits, highlighting the company’s commitment to advancing ethical AI practices. The paper focuses on the methodologies and impacts of auditing algorithms, an area of growing importance as algorithmic systems are increasingly integrated into critical decision-making processes across various sectors, including credit, insurance, healthcare, parole, social security, and immigration.

During the conference, Khoa Lam also attended in-depth paper and tutorial sessions, engaging with leading researchers and practitioners in the responsible AI (RAI) space. Reflecting on his experience, he noted, “My biggest takeaway from this week’s event was the amount of interest in auditing. It’s really good to see. People were interested in how audits and evaluation work in research and where it can fall short.”

The ACM FAccT conference is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach, bridging computer science, law, social sciences, and humanities to tackle the challenges and implications of algorithmic decision-making systems. This year’s event emphasized the dual nature of algorithmic systems—while they offer numerous benefits, they also pose significant risks, including the potential to codify and entrench biases, reduce accountability, and increase information asymmetry between individuals and large entities.

As BABL AI continues to innovate in the field of AI, its participation in ACM FAccT underscores its dedication to not only technological advancement but also to the ethical considerations that accompany the deployment of AI systems. The company’s focus on assurance audits exemplifies its proactive stance in ensuring that AI systems are fair, accountable, and transparent.
