Tajikistan is taking a leadership role in advancing AI across Central Asia, announcing plans to establish a Regional Center for Artificial Intelligence of Central Asian Countries in its capital city, Dushanbe.

According to a report from NIAT Khovar, the initiative is part of Tajikistan’s broader “Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence until 2040,” which is spearheaded by the Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies under the President of the Republic.

To coordinate national AI policy and digital development efforts, the agency has created an Interdepartmental Commission for the Regulation of Artificial Intelligence. The commission will guide implementation of the AI strategy across critical sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, industry, finance, and trade.

Backed by a recent United Nations General Assembly resolution, Tajikistan’s AI strategy also prioritizes regional cooperation with other Central Asian nations, aiming to leverage AI for sustainable development and economic growth.

The planned AI Center in Dushanbe is expected to serve as a regional hub for knowledge exchange, specialist training, educational programming, and the promotion of safe, ethical AI systems through self-regulation mechanisms.

In addition to its AI efforts, the agency is rolling out large-scale digitalization projects to address infrastructure challenges, build human capital, and boost public-private partnerships.

Tajikistan’s emphasis on a “safe, inclusive, and open digital future” underscores its intention to align domestic AI development with international legal norms and best practices.
