Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against the Roblox Corporation, accusing the multi-billion-dollar gaming platform of enabling predators to target children while misleading parents about safety protections. The complaint, filed in state district court, alleges that Roblox “flagrantly ignored state and federal online safety laws” and allowed minors to be exposed to sexually explicit content, grooming, and exploitation.
Roblox, which attracts tens of millions of young users daily, markets itself as a safe and creative environment. But according to the state’s petition, the platform’s design—including open chat functions, private messaging, and user-generated games—creates opportunities for adults to contact and manipulate children. The lawsuit argues these risks are amplified by limited age verification and inconsistent content moderation practices. The petition details multiple examples of explicit or harmful content appearing in user-created experiences and alleges that predators have used Roblox to communicate with and groom Texas minors.
Paxton said the lawsuit aims to hold the company accountable for putting “profits over the safety of Texas children.” “We cannot allow platforms like Roblox to continue operating as digital playgrounds for predators,” he said in the press release announcing the suit.
The state is seeking civil penalties and injunctive relief that would force Roblox to implement stronger safety measures, including more effective age-gating, limits on adult–child interactions, and enhanced monitoring of user-generated content.
Roblox has not issued a public statement regarding the lawsuit. The company has previously said it invests heavily in trust and safety systems, though the petition argues those measures fall short of what is necessary to protect young users.
The case is the latest in a series of actions by Paxton targeting major tech platforms over child-safety concerns, following similar lawsuits against TikTok and other social media companies.
