President Donald J. Trump signed a new executive order, launching a sweeping initiative to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) education into American classrooms and workforce development programs. The order aims to ensure the United States remains a global leader in AI innovation by promoting AI literacy from an early age and providing critical training for educators.

The executive order establishes the White House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence Education, chaired by the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, with members from across the federal government. The Task Force will coordinate national efforts to embed AI learning into kindergarten through 12th-grade (K-12) curricula, expand professional development for teachers, and boost AI-related workforce training.

A key feature of the plan includes the creation of a Presidential Artificial Intelligence Challenge, a national competition designed to highlight student and educator achievements in AI across various age groups and regions. The Challenge aims to foster innovation and encourage widespread AI adoption throughout the country.

The order also emphasizes building partnerships between the federal government, the private sector, and academia to develop online resources for K-12 AI education. Within 90 days, the Department of Education is tasked with issuing guidance on using existing grants to fund AI-driven educational initiatives and improving outcomes through AI-based tools such as high-impact tutoring and career exploration programs.

Additionally, the executive order prioritizes training for teachers to effectively integrate AI into classrooms and establishes directives for expanding AI-related Registered Apprenticeships through the Department of Labor.

“This initiative will empower American students and workers with the skills needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy,” the order states. By promoting early exposure to AI concepts and building an AI-ready workforce, the administration aims to solidify U.S. leadership in the technology-driven future.

The Task Force is expected to announce the first set of public-private partnerships and deliver initial results within the next several months.
