BABL AI’s Chief Ethics Officer Joins Pacem in Terris Event, Advocates for Ethical AI Development
Jovana Davidovic, Chief Ethics Officer at BABL AI, joined global experts to advocate for ethical AI development at a special event marking the 60th anniversary of Pacem in Terris (Peace on Earth), Pope John XXIII’s historic letter. The gathering explored urgent moral challenges, including warfare, nuclear weapons, and artificial intelligence.
The Pacem in Terris took place in September and brought together policymakers, academics, and industry leaders. The goal: to confront modern threats to peace. Davidovic participated in multiple discussions and highlighted the need for strong ethical frameworks in AI.Reflecting on the experience, she expressed optimism: “There are so many brilliant people working on issues of emerging threats to peace across industry, academia, and policy, so I am actually quite hopeful in spite of the fact that it seems like the threats to peace are growing.”
She also flagged a major concern: “Fielding weapons too soon and without appropriate testing, or fielding weapons without regard for how they might be misused…”
Pope Francis shared remarks during the event, invoking the words of St. John XXIII, He prayed for global unity and peace, stating: “By God’s power and inspiration, all peoples may embrace each other as brothers and sisters, and that the peace for which they long may ever flourish and reign among them.”
