Apple has unveiled its committing more than $500 billion to U.S.-based manufacturing, research, and technology expansion over the next four years. The initiative aims to strengthen Apple’s role in American innovation and high-skilled manufacturing, with major investments in artificial intelligence (AI), silicon engineering, and skills development.
Apple CEO Tim Cook emphasized the company’s vision for long-term growth in the U.S. economy. “We are bullish on the future of American innovation, and we’re proud to build on our long-standing U.S. investments with this $500 billion commitment,” Cook said. “From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing Fund, to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing.”
A major component of Apple’s new investment is the opening of an advanced manufacturing facility in Houston, Texas, which will produce servers supporting Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI-driven personal assistant technology. The 250,000-square-foot facility is expected to create thousands of jobs and will be operational by 2026.
Apple is also doubling its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 billion to $10 billion, boosting support for world-class innovation and high-skilled jobs. This includes a multibillion-dollar commitment to manufacturing advanced silicon chips at TSMC’s Fab 21 facility in Arizona, where Apple is the largest customer. The company’s suppliers already produce silicon components across 24 factories in 12 states.
The investment plan extends beyond hardware, with Apple planning to hire 20,000 workers primarily in research and development. Key focus areas include AI, machine learning, software development, and custom silicon design. Apple is expanding its R&D hubs across the country, including facilities in California, Texas, and North Carolina.
To support small- and medium-sized businesses, Apple will launch the Apple Manufacturing Academy in Detroit, in collaboration with Michigan State University. The academy will provide training in AI and smart manufacturing techniques, offering free in-person and online courses on project management and manufacturing process optimization.
Apple’s broader commitment to workforce development includes partnerships with organizations like 4-H, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and FIRST, as well as expanding its New Silicon Initiative, which prepares students for careers in hardware engineering and chip design.
