Uzbekistan has adopted a new law updating several legislative acts to regulate relations arising from the use of artificial intelligence, marking a significant step in the country’s approach to AI governance.

The legislation, titled “On making additions and changes to certain legislative acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan in connection with the regulation of relations arising from the use of artificial intelligence,” was signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on January 21, 2026 . The law is registered under No. LRU-1115 and was signed in Tashkent.

While the published notice does not detail the specific amendments within the text provided, the title makes clear that the law introduces additions and changes across existing legislative acts to address the growing use of artificial intelligence technologies. The move signals Uzbekistan’s intent to establish a clearer legal framework for AI as its deployment expands across public administration, business, and other sectors.

By formally embedding AI-related provisions into existing legislation, the government appears to be taking a structured approach rather than adopting a standalone AI law. Such amendments typically aim to clarify definitions, responsibilities, oversight mechanisms, and potential liabilities linked to the development and application of AI systems.

The adoption of the law reflects a broader global trend in which governments are moving to update legal systems to keep pace with rapid technological change. As AI tools become more integrated into decision-making processes and service delivery, regulatory adjustments are increasingly seen as necessary to ensure legal certainty, protect rights, and promote responsible innovation.

The official text of the act is available in Uzbek and Russian through the national legal portal. With the law now in force, attention is likely to turn to its implementation and how authorities will interpret and apply the updated provisions in practice.
