The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced the launch of the Genesis Mission Consortium, a new public-private partnership designed to accelerate scientific discovery through artificial intelligence and strengthen American leadership in emerging technologies.

The initiative supports the Department’s broader Genesis Mission, which aims to apply AI tools across research and innovation efforts to speed up breakthroughs in energy, science, and national security. According to the DOE, the consortium brings together expertise from national laboratories, private industry, and academic institutions to create a coordinated framework for collaboration.

DOE described the initiative as a major step toward transforming how scientific challenges are addressed. He said the consortium reflects an effort to unite government, industry, and academia to drive innovation and advance research capabilities.

The consortium will serve as a central hub to help identify partnerships among members and external stakeholders, coordinate responses to funding opportunities, and promote collaboration on AI-focused projects. Officials said the goal is to streamline engagement across sectors while expanding access to resources and expertise.

To support technical priorities, member-driven working groups will focus on areas including AI model development and validation, data integration and standards, high-performance computing and cloud infrastructure, and robotics and automation. These groups are intended to create practical pathways for co-developing technologies and sharing best practices between researchers and industry partners.

The DOE said the consortium will also host regular events such as annual meetings, workshops, and technology showcases to encourage collaboration and highlight emerging innovations. These gatherings are expected to support networking and accelerate project development across participating organizations.

Administration of the consortium will be handled by TechWerx, a DOE partnership intermediary operated by RTI International. Officials said the initiative is designed to position the United States at the forefront of AI-enabled discovery by combining public-sector research infrastructure with private-sector innovation and academic expertise.

More information about membership and participation is available through the Genesis Mission Consortium’s website.
