The European Artificial Intelligence Office has opened a call for expressions of interest to participate in drafting the first Code of Practice on Transparent Generative AI Systems, a key step in implementing the EU’s landmark AI Act.

The initiative aims to set out practical guidance for how providers and deployers of generative AI systems can comply with transparency obligations outlined in Article 50(2) and (4) of the AI Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689). The deadline for submissions is October 2, 2025, at 23:59 CET.

The call is open to a broad range of stakeholders, including providers of generative AI, developers of transparency techniques, associations of deployers, civil society groups, academic experts, and other relevant organizations. Applicants may apply either to participate in the drafting process or to serve as Chair or Vice-Chair of one of the working groups tasked with preparing the Code.

Chairs and Vice-Chairs must be independent experts or academics and will be responsible for preparing iterative drafts, requiring weekly commitments and intensive working periods. While no financial compensation is provided for participation, the declarations of interest and CVs of appointed Chairs and Vice-Chairs may be made public.

The working groups are expected to meet regularly, and participants must contribute substantively by reviewing drafts and providing feedback. Each organization may submit only one application covering all of its appointed representatives. Individuals cannot hold both participant and leadership roles simultaneously.

Once completed, the Code of Practice will provide detailed guidance to ensure AI-generated or manipulated content is clearly identified and that citizens are informed when interacting with AI systems. In parallel, the AI Office is also running a public consultation on transparency requirements under Article 50.

The final Code is expected to play a central role in shaping how transparency rules for generative AI are applied across the EU beginning in 2026.
