The governments of Indonesia and the UK have jointly launched the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy Dialogue Country Report, marking a significant step in bilateral cooperation on digital transformation and AI governance, according to Antara.
The report stems from a memorandum of understanding between the two nations aimed at advancing responsible AI adoption. Indonesian Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria said the findings will form the basis for developing progressive AI policies aligned with Indonesia’s national priorities.
“This dialogue’s results will serve as a foundation for formulating concrete and forward-looking AI policy recommendations,” Patria said at a press conference in Jakarta.
Compiled through intensive stakeholder engagement, the report reflects discussions involving government officials, academics, industry leaders, and civil society. It explores Indonesia’s AI readiness and outlines challenges across six key areas: digital services, infrastructure, data management, talent development, ecosystem growth, and ethics and inclusivity.
Patria emphasized that the policy dialogue reinforced the government’s role in leading and coordinating AI development. The initiative directly supports the drafting of a National Road Map for AI and a forthcoming presidential regulation governing the technology.
An initial draft of the regulation is expected by the end of July, with a public consultation scheduled for August and further review by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and the State Secretariat in September.
Patria added that his ministry is also developing a separate legal instrument focused on ensuring safe, innovative, and inclusive AI deployment.
The Indonesia-UK partnership reflects growing global cooperation on AI governance and affirms Indonesia’s commitment to balancing technological innovation with ethical and regulatory safeguards.
