The UAE is expanding its leadership in artificial intelligence through new national and international initiatives that link education, technology, and energy innovation.
In one of the country’s most significant technology collaborations to date, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met this week with U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum in Abu Dhabi, where both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation on energy and AI. The agreement, signed by UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Dr. Sultan Al Jaber and Secretary Burgum, aims to accelerate industrial transformation through advanced manufacturing, AI-driven energy systems, and smart grid management.
According to Dr. Al Jaber, the partnership will “leverage AI to make energy systems smarter, more adaptable, and more sustainable,” supporting the UAE’s “Make it in the Emirates” initiative and long-term strategy for a knowledge-based economy. Burgum said the deal builds on President Donald Trump’s visit earlier this year and reflects both nations’ shared commitment to energy innovation and national security.
The memorandum highlights areas such as predictive maintenance, robotics, automation, and materials engineering, with both countries pledging to promote joint research, skills development, and leadership training to meet the rising demands of the AI era.
At the national level, the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications Office also announced a landmark collaboration with Google to launch “AI for All,” a countrywide training initiative beginning in 2026. The program, unveiled during UAE Coding Day, will teach foundational AI skills to students, workers, and entrepreneurs through accessible online courses and workshops.
Minister of State for AI Omar Sultan Al Olama said the partnership with Google “turns AI familiarity into fluency,” while Google MENA Managing Director Anthony Nakache emphasized that the initiative ensures “AI’s benefits are accessible to everyone.”
