BABL AI Partners with the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership at the U.S. Naval Academy to Co-publish Report on “AI Enabled Weapons and Just Preparation for War”

PRESS RELEASE

BABL AI, in collaboration with the Stockdale Center for Ethical Leadership in the U.S. Naval Academy, proudly announces the co-publication of a report on “AI Enabled Weapons and Just Preparation for War.” The report, authored by BABL AI’s Chief Ethics Officer Professor Jovana Davidovic and Senior Advisor Professor Milton Regan, both of whom also hold appointments at the Stockdale Center, delves into the ethics of development and deployment of AI-enabled weapon systems.

As dedicated professors with a profound passion for AI, both authors bring years of expertise to this comprehensive analysis. Professor Jovana Davidovic and Professor Milton Regan have previously authored reports on a range of topics, including ethics of AI, meaningful human control of AI, just war theory, international humanitarian law, war crimes, and others.

The report examines the ethical risks associated with AI-enabled weapons and offers insights into minimizing future risks while upholding the principles of just war. The report focuses on two key questions: how do we develop and test AI weapons in ways that minimize unjust resort to war and unjust fighting in war. The report focuses on testing and evaluation practices and the security dilemma. Importantly, it provides actionable solutions for mitigating these risks and ensuring responsible development practices.

This report serves as a valuable resource for a diverse audience, including policymakers and military leaders. For others, it offers insights into the ethical and strategic implications of AI-enabled weapons, shedding light on critical considerations shaping the future of global warfare.
