Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) has launched a new national curriculum aimed at equipping university students across the Kingdom with foundational knowledge in data and artificial intelligence, according to reporting by ArabNews.com citing the Saudi Press Agency.
The National Cross-Disciplinary Curriculum for University Students in Data and AI was unveiled during the International Conference on Data and AI Capacity Building, held in Riyadh from Jan. 28 to 29. The conference was organized by SDAIA in academic partnership with King Saud University, with the Human Capability Development Program serving as a knowledge partner and Elm as a strategic partner.
As reported by ArabNews.com, the curriculum is designed to provide practical fundamentals that help students understand data concepts and use AI tools responsibly in support of learning, work and decision-making. The initiative targets all undergraduate students, regardless of discipline, across Saudi universities.
Under the framework, universities will be able to introduce a mandatory course in data and AI for all academic programs. The goal is to establish a minimum baseline of knowledge and core competencies in data literacy and artificial intelligence for every student in the country’s higher education system.
The curriculum also seeks to expand AI beyond computer science departments. Non-specialist students will gain exposure to AI tools, applications and real-world use cases relevant to their respective fields, enabling them to apply AI in areas such as business, health, engineering, and the humanities.
According to ArabNews.com, the initiative is aligned with broader national efforts to strengthen digital capabilities and workforce readiness. By embedding AI and data education across disciplines, SDAIA aims to ensure graduates are better prepared for the labor market and able to navigate a rapidly evolving, technology-driven economy.
