The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DE) of Thailand, in collaboration with the Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA), has launched the “Guidelines for the Application of Generative AI with Good Governance for Organizations.” This new framework, developed through the AI Governance Center (AIGC), aims to provide comprehensive guidance for Thai businesses and government entities using generative artificial intelligence (AI). It emphasizes principles of good governance to ensure AI is deployed safely, responsibly, and effectively across sectors.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Economy and Society, Mr. Prasert Chantarawongthong, noted that generative AI is a transformative tool reshaping industries worldwide. However, rapid adoption of these technologies brings challenges, especially in maintaining privacy, data security, and addressing potential impacts on employees and society. He adds that the new framework aims to align AI use with Thailand’s National Artificial Intelligence Action Plan (2022-2027).
The guidelines are designed to help organizations navigate key considerations when using generative AI. The content covers essential aspects such as understanding generative AI, evaluating its benefits and limitations, assessing risks, and implementing responsible practices. The guidebook is segmented into five main sections, each crafted to support organizations in managing AI applications aligned with governance standards. These include:
- Understanding Generative AI: This section builds a foundation for comprehending AI principles, definitions, and terminology to align organizational understanding.
- Benefits and Limitations: It provides insights into the practical applications of AI, using case studies to illustrate its capabilities and limitations.
- Risks of Generative AI: This segment highlights potential risks like data security and privacy concerns, outlining strategies to mitigate these issues.
- Application Guidelines: Here, organizations learn about structuring AI applications that align with their specific context and objectives.
- Good Governance Considerations: The final section emphasizes balancing AI’s advantages with risk management and promoting ethical involvement from stakeholders.
ETDA Director, Mr. Chaichana Mitpan, highlighted that these guidelines are part of ETDA’s broader mission to foster responsible AI adoption in Thailand. Developed in consultation with international experts and based on both domestic and global standards, the guidelines serve as a roadmap for organizations to adopt AI responsibly while enhancing Thailand’s digital economy and competitiveness.
