The United States and Israel have formalized a new partnership aimed at accelerating innovation (AI) in artificial intelligence and energy systems through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Washington, D.C.
U.S. Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum and Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, acting as chair and vice chair of the National Energy Dominance Council, signed the agreement alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Michael Leiter. The MOU underscores a joint commitment to leveraging AI to enhance energy security and optimize energy infrastructure. It also seeks to expand the global influence of both nations in emerging technologies.
“U.S. Energy Dominance demands the advancement of artificial intelligence,” said Burgum. “Through the advancement of AI, while properly managing our natural resources and improving our energy systems, the Trump administration is powering a new future that transforms global energy dominance for America and our allies.”
Energy Secretary Wright called the partnership a major step forward in aligning the U.S. and Israel’s energy and AI sectors. “This Memorandum of Understanding enables our two countries to leverage our research institutions, and technology and energy sectors to ensure the United States and Israel are leaders in AI and remain energy dominant forces as AI transforms our future,” he said.
The agreement outlines plans for joint pilot projects, research collaborations, and the sharing of best practices. Specific areas of cooperation will include AI-enabled cybersecurity tools. As well as analysis of the energy demands driven by data centers, and strategies to optimize national power grids.
The MOU highlights the growing importance of AI in securing the future of energy infrastructure and strengthens the strategic relationship between the two countries as they look to lead in the global energy and AI arenas.
