Saudi Arabia has officially joined the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI), a multilateral initiative hosted by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) that aims to promote responsible development and use of artificial intelligence worldwide, according to a statement released by the Saudi Press Agency.

The Kingdom was represented in the partnership by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), marking a new step in Saudi Arabia’s growing engagement with international AI policy and governance efforts. GPAI, which originated from the Group of Seven (G7) nations, brings together more than 40 countries to collaborate on AI research, policy frameworks and best practices focused on innovation, safety and ethics.

Saudi officials said the move reflects the country’s broader ambitions to become a global hub for advanced technologies. The accession is supported by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and aligns with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, the national strategy aimed at diversifying the economy and expanding the role of digital industries.

Through GPAI membership, Saudi Arabia is expected to contribute to discussions on international AI standards and governance frameworks while strengthening cooperation with other member countries on issues such as responsible AI deployment, innovation policy and digital infrastructure. Officials said the partnership will also help attract global investment by showcasing the Kingdom’s regulatory environment and commitment to responsible technology development.

The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence focuses on bridging the gap between theory and practical implementation by supporting collaborative research and policy recommendations. Members work together through expert groups and projects addressing areas such as trustworthy AI, data governance, innovation ecosystems and the social impact of AI technologies.

Saudi Arabia has increasingly positioned itself as a regional leader in artificial intelligence, launching national AI strategies and investing heavily in digital transformation initiatives in recent years. Joining GPAI is seen as a step toward strengthening its international role in shaping how AI technologies are governed and deployed globally.

The announcement was made in New Delhi, where international discussions on AI cooperation have been expanding amid growing global interest in aligning innovation with ethical safeguards and economic development goals.
